Soft credits are a way of recognizing a person or organization's ability to bring value to your mission, even when they don't directly give you money. In a contact's record, a user can add whom it was that influenced their decision to donate.
To add a soft credit (or multiple soft credits), or edit an existing soft credit attributed to a donors contribution follow the following steps:
(SC$ stands for soft credit)
Under the donors contact record - contribution history, there is a SC$ column. Click on the $___ amount for that column to add a new soft credit for that contribution or edit an existing one.
Note: The example listed below shows a contribution with an existing $15 soft credit, but if no existing SC$ exists it will be displayed as $0.00.
Please Note: If there are existing soft credits for the contribution record the following screen will allow you to edit the soft credit by clicking on the edit icon next to the name.
A. First, use this section to look up an existing contact's record within your databank by entering their information.
If the contact doesn't already exist within your databank you can create the new record on this screen by entering their details in the bottom section "Add Soft Credit for a new Contact'.
B. Click Find to look up the existing contact record.
If entering a new contact record click on the 'Add Member' button.
C. Click on the contact's name to give soft credit to.
- You will then be prompted to fill or update any of the fields pertaining to the soft credit. Once you are done click on the 'Submit' button.
- You have now successfully added a soft credit to a donor's existing contribution. The contribution should appear to something like similar to the screenshot below.
