"Filter by this" contextual filtering

Not sure how ridiculous it would be to try to implement this (although I would hazard fairly ridiculous), but it would awesome if there were some mechanism by which we could take a(any?) field on a record, for example, a contact note for having received a particular email,  and have a little icon you could click to filter by the adjacent field and its contents.  See my attached picture, where i added filter icons to the fields of a contact note.  

I know that I can query  this information through the system as is, but it would be nice time saver if i could just go to a record i know has the contact note i am interested in using as my criteria for the query and click a filter icon to find all records that have that particular criteria.  Further, it would be nice if the results of this filter could be retained in the query structure so that when i click current search i can see how the system recorded it, and also if i need to modify the search i can still see the "filter by" part of the search in the list of steps.  Is this at all feasible, or am i barking up a nonsensical tree?
